When it comes to government assistance programs, there’s a lot of information out there. Obviously, the best place to get information on any particular government benefit is on its official government website. But let’s be honest, often times the writing is so dry, and the wording is complicated that it’s hard to figure out exactly what they mean.
It’s no wonder people often get their information on these programs from a variety of other sources. The problem with this is, somewhere along the line, the facts can get jumbled, especially when it’s information via word-of-mouth. Because of this, there are great number of untruths floating around about different government assistance programs.
The Balance has published an article with the intention of separating myth from fact for six of the biggest government welfare programs that currently exist. These programs include:
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
- Housing Assistance
They go through each program and break down what’s actually true as well as stomp out and misconceptions that may be floating around. If you’re looking for more information on any of these programs, this is an incredibly helpful pace to start.
